A 74-year-old man, Graham Brougham from Northwich, has entered a guilty plea for raping a woman who had been drugged and assaulted over a period of more than two decades by her husband without her awareness. Brougham is the oldest among thirteen men charged with various sexual offences linked to this case. These men were allegedly invited into the victim’s home in the Stockport area of Greater Manchester by her husband to commit abuse against her.
The husband, currently in his sixties, has already admitted to 62 offences against his wife, including rape. He has provided a detailed witness statement outlining his version of events. During the hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, the judge informed Brougham that his sentence would involve a custodial term that would be lengthy. The victim was present in the public gallery, accompanied by a family member, as Brougham formally pleaded guilty to the charge of raping her in September 2024.
Additional defendants connected to this case include Keith Fotheringham, 59, from Dundee, and Sean Peers, 38, from Stockport, both of whom had previously pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the victim. The husband remains in custody, and his identity is being withheld to protect the victim’s privacy. The trial for the other ten accused men has been postponed until November 2, due to legal and logistical reasons. All allegations relate to offences committed between 2015 and November 2025.
Following Brougham’s plea, he was released on conditional bail but will face sentencing after the co-defendants’ trial concludes. The court was informed that the husband’s witness statement is extensive and contains detailed descriptions, which the defense teams are carefully examining. The judge emphasized the complexity and volume of the materials involved. Meanwhile, several other men, including Philip Wild, Jordan Wallace, Alan Keelan, Jonathan Kirk, Robert Stewart, Mohammed Sabir, Richard Townsend, Karl Lindsay, Daniel Rayner, and David Graves, continue to deny the charges and are expected to stand trial next month. The legal proceedings are ongoing
