The second series of *The Celebrity Traitors* began with an episode that immediately caught viewers’ attention, largely due to the striking entrance made by host Claudia Winkleman. She emerged dramatically, carried by druids inside a closed coffin, before greeting 21 celebrities gathered anxiously in a church setting. Claudia’s gothic arrival was met with playful admiration, including model and actress Jerry Hall comparing her to Cleopatra, remarking “Claudiapatra!” in reference to the queen’s iconic style. At the press launch, Winkleman revealed she loved the theatrical entrance but had initially considered hiding in a suit of armour within the castle, calling the coffin idea “a sort of GCSE history fantasy.”
However, the episode’s biggest moment belonged to actor Richard E Grant, who startled everyone by openly confessing he was a traitor—an admission totally contrary to the secretive nature of the game. Grant, along with presenter Maya Jama, were among the three traitors chosen by Winkleman. Yet, shortly after being selected, Grant impulsively told others of his role, prompting stunned silence around him. Fellow celebrity James Blunt called it “an interesting angle,” while comedian Rob Beckett described it as a “bold strategy” never before seen in the show. Grant later reflected on his mistake, admitting to the cameras: “That may be the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. I was so thrilled… that I said, ‘Of course I’m a traitor.’ I clearly need to defuse all the heat that’s coming in my direction.”
The following day, ex-BBC journalist Amol Rajan quizzed Grant about his surprising slip-up. Grant explained he had been so openly eager to be a traitor that he simply answered truthfully when asked. Rajan dubbed him the “Lord of Chaos,” but others remained unconvinced of his guilt. Jerry Hall, who has known Grant for 30 years, maintained her belief in his innocence, suggesting his eccentric behavior was more about disappointment at not being chosen as a traitor. Meanwhile, others like comedian Miranda Hart remained uncertain about Grant’s true allegiance. Winkleman described Grant’s reaction as “giddy,” laughing at the unfolding drama, while Ed Gamble, host of the show’s spin-off *Uncloaked*, likened the moment to an actor too excited about a lead role revealing the plot prematurely.
Aside from the drama surrounding Grant, other celebrities showed their strengths during the episode’s challenges. Ross Kemp, known for his tough roles and documentary work, teamed up with ex-arm
