Men charged after UK's second largest ketamine haul found in Upton

Authorities have charged three individuals following the discovery of what is believed to be the second-largest seizure of ketamine in the UK. West Yorkshire Police reported that approximately 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds) of the drug, valued at around £10 million, were uncovered at a property located on Rose Avenue in the Upton area of Pontefract. For context, the largest ketamine seizure recorded to date was in Merseyside in 2025, with an estimated value of £17 million.

The operation, which was conducted by the Regional Organised Crime Unit and West Yorkshire Police, involved the discovery of 20 black bin bags containing the substance. The three men charged in connection with this case are Curtis Binns, aged 32, and Paul Turner, aged 40, both residing in Upton, along with Christopher Willis, aged 42, from Wolverhampton.

Legal proceedings are set to take place at Leeds Magistrates’ Court, where the suspects will face multiple charges. Curtis Binns, who lives on Sunny Avenue, has been charged with possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, as well as money laundering. Paul Turner, from Common Lane, faces charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, while Christopher Willis has been charged with supplying a Class B drug.

Ketamine is widely known for its veterinary use as a horse tranquiliser. However, when misused by humans, it poses serious health risks. These dangers include severe and potentially permanent damage to the bladder, which may require lifelong medical intervention
