Man admits drugging and raping wife for 20 years

A man has admitted to committing 60 offences against his wife, including drugging and raping her without her knowledge over a period exceeding two decades. The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect his wife’s anonymity, had previously pleaded guilty to some charges, such as rape, at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

During the hearing, the victim observed the proceedings from the public gallery, supported by family members. The defendant, a man in his sixties from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, showed visible emotion while repeatedly confessing guilt to numerous charges. These included multiple counts of rape, assault by penetration, and administering a substance with the intent to cause harm. At one point, the judge asked him to sit down in the dock due to his emotional state.
