Two cyclists tragically lost their lives in a road accident near Gravesend, Kent, on Sunday. Steven Anscomb, aged 60, and Natasha Lewis, 51, both died at the scene of the crash. The families of the deceased have paid tribute to them, remembering the impact they had on those around them.

Fiona Anscomb, alongside her daughters Liberty and Imogen, expressed their grief in a statement, saying Steven “will be so very deeply missed by so many and has been robbed of the special times of life.” Likewise, Natasha Lewis’s daughter Hermione shared her sorrow, describing her mother as “an amazing, thoughtful, and strong woman.” She also highlighted that exercise was one of her mother’s “true loves” and lamented that Natasha had “so many more years to experience this life.” Hermione added, “I am truly so grateful to have her as my mum,” calling her “one of a kind,” and expressed her heartfelt emotions by saying, “Mum, I love you so much.”

Police have charged 22-year-old Aaron Turner of Craylands Square, Swanscombe, with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the fatal collision. Additional charges against him include failing to stop at the scene and possession of a class C drug. A third cyclist involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and was treated in hospital. During a court hearing at Medway Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that the cyclists were on a training ride in preparation for a “very long cycle ride” planned overseas. Anscomb’s family noted this was “his last ride before his big bike ride to Amsterdam, but sadly he never came home.”

Kent Police have requested any witnesses to the incident, which occurred around 07:45 BST near the junction of Sole Street and Round Street, to come forward with information. In addition to Turner’s charges, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and assisting an offender respectively, have been released on police bail. The community continues to mourn the loss of two beloved individuals whose lives were cut short in this tragic accident
