The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly engaged in early negotiations to make a comeback to acting with a part in the Netflix series *The Gentlemen*, according to information obtained by the BBC. This would mark Meghan Markle’s first major acting role since marrying Prince Harry.
*The Gentlemen*, created by Guy Ritchie, has seen much of its filming take place in the Cotswolds, which is rumored to be where Harry and Meghan plan to establish their residence upon their return to the UK later this month. The show, featuring actor Theo James, is a comedic drama centered around a duke who turns into a drug lord.
Although specifics about Meghan’s potential role and the nature of the deal remain undisclosed, previous episodes of *The Gentlemen* have included performances by actors such as Hugh Bonneville and Vinnie Jones. Meghan’s most notable acting role was as Rachel Zane, a lawyer on the US legal drama *Suits*, where she starred for seven seasons before her final episode aired in 2018.
Following her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018, Meghan took a break from her acting career, describing the decision not as a sacrifice but as “a new chapter” in her life during an interview with the BBC. Recently, she made a brief return to acting with a cameo appearance as herself in the upcoming comedy *Close Personal Friends*, alongside Lily Collins and Brie Larson. Alongside this potential acting return, Meghan also aims to grow the international presence of her US-based lifestyle and cooking brand, *As Ever*, while she is in the UK.
This development coincides with the announcement that Prince Harry and Meghan plan to relocate back to the United Kingdom. The couple is expected to move later this month into a private, non-royal property just outside London, with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, set to begin school in Britain come September. Despite the move, there are currently no plans for Harry or Meghan to resume duties as working members of the royal family.
Their decision to resettle in the UK follows a family visit in July, where Harry, Meghan, and their children met King Charles III at Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire. This was the first in-person meeting between the King and his grandchildren in over four years and marked the couple’s first return to the UK together since 2022. The long-term move has raised questions about the level of publicly funded security for the couple in Britain, as their protection had been reduced after stepping back from royal duties and relocating to the US in 2020, where they have been financing their own security. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), an independent body under the Home Office, will need to assess and make new decisions regarding their security arrangements in the UK based on their permanent residence status
