Firefighters are actively responding to a vehicle fire that has led to the closure of a significant section of the A31 and has extended into surrounding heathland within Hampshire’s New Forest area. The incident occurred near Ringwood on Sunday evening.
According to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, a total of 26 fire engines are engaged in efforts to control and extinguish the flames. The blaze initially started from the vehicle before spreading to the central reservation of the road and then onto the adjacent heathland.
As a result of the fire, authorities have shut down the A31 in both directions between Picket Post and junction two of the M27. Drivers are being urged to avoid this stretch and seek alternative routes to prevent delays and ensure safety.
Emergency services continue to manage the situation, working diligently to contain the fire and minimize disruption. Updates are expected as the efforts to bring the blaze under control progress
