Paul Gadd, better known by his stage name Gary Glitter, has appeared in court facing four historical sexual offence charges dating back to the late 1970s. Gadd made his court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via video link from prison. During the brief hearing, he denied all charges and was remanded in custody, with a further court date set for 2 September at the Old Bailey in London, where he may appear either remotely or in person.
The allegations against Gadd consist of one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years of age, along with three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. There is a single alleged victim involved in the case, with the claimed offences reportedly occurring between 1978 and 1981 at a residence in Kensington. Prosecutor Jonathan Polnay KC outlined that the complainant was between eight and 11 years old at the time and that she lived near Gadd’s home, which is how their acquaintance reportedly began.
According to the prosecution, the complainant stated that Glitter gave her chocolate and invited her into his home, where the incidents allegedly occurred. Gadd, during a police interview, denied knowing the victim and asserted that the accusations were false. The case came to light when the victim reported the allegations to the Metropolitan Police on 9 January 2025, prompting an official investigation. Gadd was first interviewed by police in connection with this inquiry on 22 July of the previous year.
Gary Glitter, once a prominent figure in the 1970s music scene with numerous chart-topping singles, is currently held at His Majesty’s Prison Channings Wood in Devon. The Metropolitan Police confirmed in July that the alleged victim is receiving support from specialist officers and has been informed of the charges laid against Gadd. During his court appearance, Gadd, dressed in a blue shirt and sunglasses, confirmed his identity but did not offer further comment
