Five officers from the Metropolitan Police sustained injuries after a police boat collided with Westminster Bridge in central London. The incident took place around 15:40 BST and involved a vessel from the Marine Policing Unit, which was carrying armed personnel.
According to a statement by the Metropolitan Police, several officers fell into the water but were subsequently rescued. Authorities are currently awaiting further details regarding the severity of the injuries sustained by the officers involved.
No members of the public are reported to have been affected by the accident. Those officers rescued from the river were visible receiving medical treatment on a rigid black inflatable boat stationed at the riverbank.
In response to the event, the surrounding area was cleared of pedestrians, and emergency services, including numerous police officers, fire brigades, and ambulance teams, were deployed to the scene. A cordon was established at both ends of Westminster Bridge, which spans the River Thames adjacent to the Houses of Parliament, causing significant disruption to bus and coach traffic that had to reverse and seek alternative routes
