In Southampton, six additional men have been formally charged in connection with violent disorder that erupted during protests following the murder of Henry Nowak. The individuals, aged between their 20s and 30s and hailing from Southampton, Gosport, and Romsey, were implicated after disturbances occurred in the city on Tuesday evening, according to Hampshire Police.
These demonstrations took place after police released body camera footage showing 18-year-old Nowak being handcuffed shortly after he had been fatally stabbed by Vickrum Digwa, aged 23. Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment earlier in the week for the murder. The newly charged men join five others previously charged, bringing the total number of people facing charges linked to the protests to eleven. All six are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court soon.
The five men recently charged with violent disorder include Kevin Reeves, Andrew Riddett, Harry Varney, Taylor Grundy, and Dillon Crawford, each associated with different areas of Southampton and Gosport. A sixth individual, Andrew Summerhayes from Romsey, faces additional charges beyond violent disorder, including possession of offensive weapons in a public space. Among those charged earlier, four men have pled guilty to charges of violent disorder; one of them admitted to carrying a dog lead fitted with a metal carabiner, deemed an offensive weapon.

Following the release of the footage and the subsequent legal verdict, protests and confrontations with law enforcement unfolded in Southampton, with reports of police facing missile attacks near Digwa’s residence in the Portswood area
