After more than a decade and a half away from performing live, singer Duffy is preparing to step back into the spotlight. The Welsh artist, who had withdrawn from public life following traumatic experiences including sexual assault and kidnapping, recently announced her return with a “secret intimate gig” scheduled for 5 July in London. This marks her first live performance since her early career days.
Duffy initially shot to fame in 2008 when she released her debut album, *Rockferry*, which featured the hit single “Mercy.” Her success was recognized with several prestigious awards, including three BRIT Awards, a Grammy, and an Ivor Novello Award. Despite the momentum following her second album and anticipation for a third, Duffy abruptly disappeared from the public eye, leaving many curious about her sudden absence.
In 2020, she revealed the reasons behind her retreat through an emotional Instagram post and a personal essay on her website. She shared that she had been drugged, abducted, and raped in a foreign country, managing to escape her attacker, whose identity remains unknown. Duffy described how no one was aware of her ordeal before she made it public, noting that the trauma had led to suicidal thoughts.
Recently, Duffy took to Instagram once again to share her plans for the upcoming concert, inviting fans to a small-capacity, by-ballot event where she intends to perform new songs. She expressed excitement about reconnecting with her audience, saying, “I would love nothing more than for some of you to attend.” Earlier, she posted a black-and-white photo from a recording studio with the message, “If only I could find the right words to explain how much I’ve missed you all. Working on coming back to you.
