A Scottish individual who initially worked as a military instructor in Ukraine has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for espionage activities on behalf of Russia. Ross David Cutmore, originally from Dunfermline in Fife, admitted to revealing unauthorized information regarding the positions of Ukrainian military units, as well as details about foreign military trainers operating in the country.
Cutmore arrived in Ukraine at the start of 2024, where he initially took up the role of military instructor. However, by September 2024, he ceased this work and began seeking financial gains through online pro-Kremlin networks. According to Ukrainian authorities, it was at this point that he was recruited by an agent of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and was promised monetary compensation in exchange for his cooperation.
During his trial at the Kyiv District Court in Odesa on 30 April, Cutmore pleaded guilty under a plea agreement and cooperated with the investigation
