Pop singer Dua Lipa has initiated legal action against Samsung, seeking $15 million (£11 million) in damages. The lawsuit claims that the electronics giant used her image without authorization on the packaging of several television models sold in the United States.
The legal complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California, states that Samsung prominently displayed a photograph of Lipa’s face on its TV boxes without obtaining permission. The image is alleged to have been exploited to boost sales by leveraging the singer’s fame, with the filing describing the packaging as being “designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success.”
Included in the lawsuit are accusations of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and unlawful use of Lipa’s likeness. It specifies that the photograph in question was taken during her 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival and that she holds the copyright to the image. The singer and her legal team contend that Samsung ignored multiple requests to stop using the image.
The complaint also notes that Lipa only became aware of her image on the Samsung packaging in June 2025, a fact quickly noticed by fans who referred to the products as the “Dua Lipa TV Box” on social media. The lawsuit highlights social media comments such as one saying, “get that TV just because Dua is on it,” and another stating, “If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.” Alongside the legal action, it is mentioned that Dua Lipa maintains various brand endorsements and collaborations, having worked with firms like Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Apple, Porsche, Chanel, and most recently, serving as a global ambassador for Nespresso. Her latest album, Radical Optimism, was released in 2024
