The United Kingdom is preparing to deliver its largest-ever shipment of drones to Ukraine, with a total of 120,000 units set to bolster the Ukrainian military’s capabilities. This significant support comes amid a conflict that entered its fifth year in February, where drones have played an increasingly pivotal role on both sides of the war.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey highlighted the strategic importance of this delivery, noting that “with eyes on the Middle East in recent weeks, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wants us to be distracted.” He described the contribution as a “big boost” to Ukraine’s defence efforts. The announcement precedes Healey’s co-chairing role at a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Berlin, which includes representatives from 50 nations.
The drone package covers a diverse range of technologies including long-range strike drones, reconnaissance models, logistics drones, and maritime-capable units, many manufactured by UK-based firms. Delivery of this advanced battlefield technology began earlier this month, according to the Ministry of Defence. “Ukrainians continue to fight with huge courage and nothing will distract us from continuing to stand with them for as long as it takes to secure peace,” Healey affirmed.
In parallel developments, Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to announce additional support for Ukraine at an upcoming international finance ministers’ meeting in Washington DC. Reeves stressed that “This funding will help deliver the military equipment Ukraine needs as it defends itself against Russia’s unprovoked war.”

In the northern Sumy region, emergency services reported three separate strikes targeting an industrial zone, even as rescuers were on site. Simultaneously, Russian forces launched strikes near Ukraine’s southern port city of Odesa, sparking fires that firefighters worked to contain. Despite multiple rounds of peace negotiations facilitated by the US, talks have stalled amid shifting international priorities. Kyiv insists on securing a full and stable ceasefire as a stepping stone towards a permanent resolution, while Moscow demands an agreement on a peace deal first, casting doubt on its commitment to ending the fighting
