Sandra Burnell, a grandmother from Newport with a fondness for Pot Noodles, ensured that her favorite snack remained part of her farewell. Known for eating a Pot Noodle every evening while watching television, Sandra’s love for the instant meal was reflected even in her final arrangements. Battling heart issues that limited her diet, she still held a special place in her heart for these convenient snacks.

Her funeral, held at Gwent Crematorium in Croesyceiliog, featured various personalized touches honoring Sandra’s quirky passion. The funeral director, Kirsty Sailes, purchased 72 pots of the beef and tomato flavor to place on the pews, allowing mourners to take one home as a memorable tribute. Sandra’s daughter, Tracy, shared that her mother frequently hosted “Pot Noodle parties” where guests would join her in enjoying the snack, highlighting how central Pot Noodles were to Sandra’s social life.

Further personalization extended to the printed order of service, which was adorned with images of the instant snack, mirroring Sandra’s enthusiasm. Additionally, Sandra’s coffin was draped in her favorite royal blue color, adding a vibrant touch to the ceremony. Tracy explained, “With the service we did a few things around Pot Noodles. She had some put in her coffin and her order of service was all decorated with Pot Noodles.”

The inclusion of the pots on the pews was a thoughtful idea from Kirsty Sailes, who wanted to give mourners a unique way to remember Sandra. Tracy noted that guests made plans to enjoy their Pot Noodles at nine o’clock, which she believed her mother would have truly appreciated. Speaking about the personalized approach, Kirsty remarked, “I think it is great that people can do a bit more now and make things more personalised.”
