Police have arrested two men following the discovery of a man’s body on a road in Warwickshire, believed to be the result of a hit-and-run accident. The victim, aged in his 50s, was found on Monk’s Park Lane in Atherstone shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
Authorities from Warwickshire Police have stated that their primary investigation revolves around the possibility that the man was struck by a vehicle, which then failed to stop at the scene. In connection with this incident, a 23-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 74-year-old man from Shifnal, Shropshire, were taken into custody. Both face charges including causing death by dangerous driving, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Following their arrests, the two individuals have been released on bail while the police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the event. Officers have issued a call to the public for any further information that might aid the investigation.
PC Craig Pearson emphasized the importance of any eyewitness accounts or footage, particularly from those who may have seen a red Mercedes Vito van in the vicinity at the time of the incident. He urged residents to review any relevant CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam recordings. “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life, they are currently being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer,” Pearson added
