An 80-year-old male has been granted bail following an incident in which an 83-year-old woman was reportedly shot with what authorities suspect was an air weapon. The event took place at a residence on The Street in Monks Eleigh, close to Lavenham.

Suffolk Police responded to a call from the ambulance service shortly after 16:00 GMT on Thursday. Upon arrival, they found the woman injured and she was subsequently transported by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Medical staff have described her condition as serious but stable.

The man was detained at the scene under suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. After being arrested, he was released on bail with the requirement to report back to the police on March 27.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the community remains concerned about the safety implications. The location, The Street in Monks Eleigh, is a residential area characterized by small cottages and a 30 mph speed limit
