Joyful parents across Scotland have welcomed the very first babies of 2026 as the New Year arrived. At the Ayrshire Maternity Unit in Kilmarnock, Baby Arabella was born shortly after midnight, at 12:14 am. Her parents, Lucy-Jane Bark and Luke Hutchinson from Stevenston, joyfully greeted their daughter who weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces (3.9 kilograms).
Just minutes later, at 12:21 am, Colette and Ryan Lynch from Port Glasgow celebrated the birth of their son, Leo, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. Meanwhile, over in the east of Scotland, Hunter became the first newborn at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, arriving at 12:26 am. His parents, Courtney Brown and Graham Lindsay from Broxburn, shared that although Hunter was expected on Christmas Day, he chose to wait until the New Year to make his entrance. Courtney expressed, “I think he wanted to celebrate in style. I think he’s going to be excited about his birthday every year. We’re over the moon and we’ll be glad to get him home and see the rest of his family.”
At 12:27 am, another baby girl was welcomed into the world at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kausar, who have not yet chosen a name for their daughter, were delighted by their little girl who weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces (3.5 kilograms). Later in the morning, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh recorded its first New Year birth at 2:45 am, when baby Charlie was born. His mother, Alanah, praised the care she received, saying, “The midwives have been unbelievable, so well looked after. A great start to the New Year.
