Businesses in Liverpool have overwhelmingly supported the renewal and expansion of the Culture and Commerce Business Improvement District (BID), following the conclusion of a recent ballot. The approval means that the extended BID will officially begin from June 1, 2026. This extension will include a broader range of business premises located in the waterfront, cultural, and commercial zones of the city. These businesses will contribute through a levy, which will be used to fund promotional efforts and provide additional support for these vibrant districts through the Liverpool BID Company.
The voting results revealed a clear endorsement, with 116 businesses casting their votes in favor, compared to 16 against, accounting for a turnout of 32 percent. This significant backing is seen as a positive sign for the future growth of Liverpool’s cultural and commercial sectors. The businesses’ willingness to participate in the ballot underscores their commitment to enhancing the city’s appeal and economic strength.
Councillor Liam Robinson, Leader of the Council, expressed his gratitude for the strong support demonstrated by local businesses. He remarked, “The ‘Yes’ vote for a renewal and expansion of the BID is a major vote of confidence in the growth of our successful commercial and cultural economies. I want to thank all the businesses that participated in the ballot. Their support delivers a major boost to Liverpool’s tourism and business sector, supporting jobs and investment to benefit local people, and showing how Liverpool continues to offer a warm welcome to visitors from around the world.”
