Parents of Merseyside gang violence victims speak out three years on

The tragic loss of Olivia Pratt-Korbel, a nine-year-old girl who was killed in her own home in Dovecoat as a result of gang violence in Liverpool, has sparked outrage among the families of other victims of gun crime. Olivia was shot by Thomas Cashman, a drug dealer chasing a competitor, on August 22, 2022, becoming the third fatality in Merseyside in a week. Cheryl Korbel, Olivia’s grieving mother, expressed the immeasurable pain of losing her daughter at such a young age, stating, “It has been three years since I last heard her laugh, put her to bed or held her hand, but the pain of her loss still feels like it happened yesterday.” She emphasized the loss of a future filled with milestones for Olivia, unable to see her grow up, get married, or fulfill her dreams.
