In order to improve safety in Liverpool’s Pride Quarter, a new range of measures has been introduced. This includes a Rainbow Taxi Rank, more efficient signage, and CCTV. The initiative is a joint effort between Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council, and the LCR Pride Foundation. The primary aim of this program is to ensure safety for residents and visitors in the nighttime economy while promoting inclusivity and celebrating the city’s diverse LGBT+ community.

Recently, Liverpool received the Purple Flag status for the 14th year in a row. Sergeant Craig Winstanley from the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing team has worked alongside the LCR Pride Foundation and Liverpool City Council on this project.

The Rainbow Taxi Rank, which is the first of its kind in the UK, will be located in the heart of the Pride Quarter. As well as this, bespoke signage will be displayed on bins and lamp posts across the area, featuring LGBT+ inclusive symbols. These symbols represent a diverse and accepting community that values everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Upgrades will also be made to the area’s CCTV network and lighting to further promote safety.

Enhanced engagement with the community and delivery partners will be a crucial aspect of this initiative. Dedicated policing will also be present in the nighttime economy to ensure the safety of all who reside or visit the Pride Quarter. The safer environment created through these measures is expected to encourage more people to come to the area, potentially boosting the local economy
